The cutting nozzle is one of the cheapest yet most important parts of a laser head. A worn nozzle quietly degrades cut quality and drives up costs. Here are five signs it’s time to replace it.
1. Decline in cut quality
If the edges become rough, or you see melting or discoloration, that’s often the first symptom of a damaged or dirty nozzle.
2. Uneven gas flow
A deformed or asymmetric nozzle orifice disturbs the gas flow, leading to burrs and unstable cutting — especially on thicker materials.
3. Increased gas consumption
Higher-than-usual oxygen or nitrogen consumption at the same settings is a sign the nozzle no longer maintains the correct pressure.
When to replace the nozzle
- After every collision of the head with the material.
- When you can see metal spatter around the orifice.
- Regularly, as part of maintenance — it’s the cheapest part in the whole system.
